At Pinuaga we strive to make sure that our wines have a sense of place. The diversity of soils (sandy, clay limestone as well as some alluvial), significantly enriches the quality and personality of our wines.
We grow 30 HA of vineyards that are different in age, yields & soils. Most of them are old bush vines between 15 to 65 years old planted at high altitudes, 750m to 800m.
RECOVERING INDIGENOUS CLONES
Old bush vines are a precious and scare good as well as one of the most ancient training systems, thus we take special care in preserving them. One of the most delicate processes is grafting, which requires patience and practice.
We feel extremely proud of our Cencibel recovery project( indigenous clone of Tempranillo), by which we have recovered old original clones planted by our grandfather, whose smaller and silky grapes along with longer ripening cycles add complexity to our wines.

OUR LOCAL GRAPE VARIETIES
Red Tempranillo/Cencibel, Grenache, Merlot as well as white Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc are amongst the grape varieties we grow. Each plot is manually harvested at night and fermented in separate tanks ensuring the expression of the grape’s character.
ORGANIC FARMING
The respect for the natural environment has always been an important factor in our vine-growing. Wild grass usually grows freely from the month of October until April and the vineyard borders are maintained with indigenous flora to enable beneficial insects to complete their life cycle. Fertilizing is kept down to a minimum, which only comes in the form of manure. Fungal sprays are essentially in the form of sulphur, no use of chemicals is allowed.
All our vineyards and wines are officially certified organic under the strict European rules.
